Why buy a used Volkswagen Caravelle with Exchange and Mart?

The Caravelle model line goes all the way back to 1979, when it was used to designate a plusher, more car-like People Carrying version of the third generation T3 Transporter van. Over the next forty years, the Caravelle was equalled only by the Mercedes V-Class at the quality end of the segment for large MPVs. But when the T6-era version reached the end of its production run in 2021, Volkswagen rather inexplicably dropped the 'Caravelle' nameplate, badging the replacement T7-era design the 'Multivan', an ironic decision given that unlike its predecessors, the T7 design wasn't based on a van. This, Wolfsburg now admits, was a mistake, and in an era where the company is placing much faith in long-running model nameplates, decided to use the Multivan's mid-term update in Summer 2026 to rename this T7 design the 'Caravelle', as it should have done all along. Add in the more car-like front end and cabin introduced as part of this facelift and Volkswagen might be more easily able to persuade buyers that this isn't merely a plushed-up van with windows. Let's take a closer look.

About the Volkswagen Caravelle

Like its Multivan predecessor, this new-era Caravelle tries to reset the segment standard for what a really large People Carrier can be. Expect ride and handling on a different level from this model's LCV-based rivals - and far more car-like cabin too. You'd probably consider a rival Mercedes VL-Class in this sector if luxury was everything, but the Caravelle could save you so much over one of those that you might be able to justify having it with the Plug-in Hybrid powertrain that no other MPV in this segment can offer. It'll all be a different world for customers who still haven't graduated on from the pre-2021-era old T6-generation Caravelle. What this isn't though, is a different world for large People Carrier design. Perhaps the next generation Caravelle will be. For the time being though, this one's getting there.
