Overview
The Audi A5 is basically a two-door coupé version of the A4 saloon, with all the elements the latter is renowned for – namely sleek styling, exceptional build quality and powerful engines. Will you wish it could be more fun to drive? Maybe. The A5 appeals to drivers who find excitement in a refined, powerful experience where the miles just cruise by.
What you need to know about the Audi A5
The Audi A5 isn’t about flamboyance; it’s focused on efficiency and refinement, impeccably put together. Every model is well-equipped, comfortable and surprisingly spacious for a coupé. With plenty of steering precision and grip, it’s a fantastic car for easy cruising. Unsurprisingly, the cabin’s a place you’ll happily spend time.
The latest generation Audi A5 brings a few welcome alterations to the efficiency and practicality of the range, which includes the four-seat cabriolet and the five-door Sportback alongside the three-door Coupe. A 1.8-litre petrol engine joins as the new entry-level option and a strong contender for sales.
The great thing about the A5 is it delivers a similar amount of practicality, running costs and performance as an executive saloon, but with more style.
What you need to watch out for
The A5 will cost you in extras to get the best from it. The Telegraph pick out the 2.0 TFSI Sport S-tronic as their favourite, which they’d add things like Audi’s Virtual Cockpit (£250), hill hold assist (£75) and a technology pack (£1,110) to. Finding the balance of tech you want could take time.
For us, the most sensible option is the impressive 1.8-litre petrol SE. It might not be as sharp to drive as a Beemer, but you’ll find it hard to be disappointed with the refined drive and upmarket interior.
Other options
- BMW 4 Series
- Mercedes C-Class Coupe
Expert opinion
As a luxurious four-seater coupé, the A5 delivers. It’s a competent all-rounder fans of Audi will adore. Of course, style comes at a premium. But Audi’s resale values, reliability and impressive running costs all work in the A5’s favour. Check out the models from Exchange & Mart today.
