Names like the Ford Fiesta don’t last for more than 30 years without good reason.
And the latest version keeps Ford at the top of the market – it’s still the biggest seller in the UK.
It’s come a long way since the boxy original, of course, and today looks modern, slick and premium.
There’s a great choice of engines as well, with Ford’s excellent 1.0 Ecoboost petrol and a tantalisingly-efficient diesel.
The three-cylinder petrol has been a big success and suits the Fiesta down to the ground with its lively feel, road-tax busting 99g/km of CO2 and a combined mpg of 65.
If you drive more miles, the diesel is well worth a look – it puts out just 87/g km and claims a mighty 85 to the gallon.
Kit levels are good across the board, with even lower-end Zetec getting 15in alloys, a heated windscreen – why don’t more cars have this? – a USB connection, Bluetooth and hill-start assist.
It’s roomy inside and the boot is decent for a small car. Build quality is good, as you’d expect.
Ford’s options list is extensive, meaning that buyers can tailor this mass-produced car to their individual needs.
The Fiesta is still a little cracker to drive and either of the above-mentioned engines are great choices – avoid the older naturally-aspirated lumps.
