Affectionately known as ‘Moggies’ by enthusiasts, branded vehicles have been in production since 1911, and Morgan have spent the last 103 years building up a dedicated fan base.

Brooklands Museum

Brooklands Museum holds a very special place in the heart of many classics enthusiasts, thanks to both its location and its purpose.

The museum is situated at Brooklands motor racing circuit, the world’s very first purpose built race track for cars. Constructed at Weybridge in Surrey in 1907, it has played host to some of the most iconic moments in racing history throughout its century long tenure, and is widely regarded as the birthplace of British motorsport and aviation.

It is here, on the aged racetrack, that the Concorde was born, and that many other technological and engineering achievements started their journeys.

The track is more than a great sporting arena; it is also home to Brooklands Museum, a special building dedicated to protecting its legacy. Memorabilia includes everything from giant racing cars to motorcycles and bicycles.

Alongside them are Second World War fighter jets. Wellington Bombers line up besides Vikings, Viscounts, Vanguards, VC10s and BAC One-Elevens. In pride of place rests the only Concorde with public access in South East England.

The racetrack at Brooklands hosted its final race in 1939, and today it acts as not only a museum, but also a popular venue for vintage car, motorcycle and aviation related events. On the weekends, the doors are thrown wide, and enthusiasts are welcomed to all manner of spectacles, from car club visits with drives on Test Hill, to motorsport festivals and aviation events.

The aim of Brooklands is simple: to preserve the legacy of the iconic racetrack, and to use that heritage to inspire and educate future generations to match the achievements of their predecessors.

Brooklands Morgan Day

As part of this mission, Brooklands Museum hosted their Morgan Day on Sunday 5th October. Large numbers of Morgans flocked to the annual event, with £1 off normal admission prices for those arriving in a Morgan.

The spectacle was glorious, with aged race cars pouring through the gate. Parked up, they were a marvellous sight, with their softly curved edges, antiquarian elegance, gleaming paint and dazzling fenders.

A cavalcade charged around the Mercedes Benz World Circuit from 1.15pm, and Test Hill was available for action from 2.30 pm onwards, filling the air with the roar of decades old engines.

The atmosphere was carnival-like, with food and drinks also on offer.

Educational, emotive and fun, it offered a perfect family day out for car enthusiasts of all ages. To get in on the action yourself, make sure that you’re there at next year’s event.
